Meet the band

Kurt Griesemer was born in Milwaukee, raised on the Violent Femmes, tuned in by the Grateful Dead and turned on by the Twin Cities' music scene in the early 90's. He played in various bands on the Minneapolis side of the river (including an earlier version of Borderlands and the Irish Pub band Tramps and Hawkers) for ten years. Recently, Kurt moved to the Madison area and coaxed Craig out of early retirement with threats and beer. Kurt's loyalty (but sadly, not his fidelity) can be purchased with a glass of Tullamore Dew. |

Carl Rozas grew up in the Milwaukee area, studying classic violin since age 5. He made the jump from the symphony to a rock band when he moved to Madison to attend UW. Most recently on stage with singer/songwriter Buzz Meade, Carl finds himself at home in any genre. He dislikes writing bios and hopes to one day be famous enough so that someone will write one for him. |

Craig Jewell played guitar and bass in various bands all through the 80's. He played everything from heavy metal to 70's country-rock, trying to find the right people and the right sound. Born in Madison, Jim Turk has been immersed in the local music scene as a spectator, player, and teacher since he was a kid, and frankly he hasn’t changed much. Jim has played drums and percussion in a host of local bands and orchestras. Most recently, Jim spent four years with the Latin pop group The Prole, but took the last three years off from music for graduate school. Once finished, he wasn’t sure how to handle the lack of things on his plate and decided to start playing again. After getting them loaded, Jim convinced the boys from Borderlands to let him join their band. |

Currently the benevolent dictator of a small tropical island, Brent Richter is a former member, and occasional special guest, of Borderlands. Previously, he was an early on, short-lived trombonist that has played as a rock n' roll guitarist in Tin Shed, RJ Express Band, and The Lucky Dog Band. He has also played mandolin in various venues. Brent took a short hiatus away from music to pursue family and education, but had the itch to play again and in 2005 he joined Borderlands mainly as a mandolinist. Listeners coin his playing as Bluegrassy-Rock, go figure. Often at night, Brent is visited by what appears to be the ghost of Bill Monroe. |
